Read the book. It is so much better.

Damn. I had high hopes.

Friend of mine saw it, and he said he damn near walked out. Said it was like every episode of Star Trek the Next Generation where Wesley Crusher saves the ship rolled into 2 hours with umpteen close-ups of that bitch kid actor welling up with tears and flaring his nostrils.

Surprisingly faithful to the book. I've loved the book a long time; but the movie is too faithful to the book. It plods. It's a little boring, as it carefully hits all its expected story beats. Too earnest, without the extra texture the book supplies. My wife (who read and enjoyed the book) fell asleep.

My 16yo stepdaughter, who has not read the book, thought it was great.

I tried the book, but could not read it to the end.
